In the official Madden NFL 21simulation of Super Bowl LV, the Chiefs beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 37-27 and lifted the Lombardi Trophy for the second year in a row.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes scored the lead touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 12-yard run to give Kansas City a 34-27 lead. The Chiefs added a late field goal to account for the final margin.
Madden’s simulation hit the mark in the Super Bowl last year, picking the Chiefs as the victors against the San Francisco 49ers and Mahomes for MVP. In that way, Madden’s losing streak ended after two consecutive failures after having selected the Los Angeles Rams to beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII (New England won) and the Patriots to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl LII (the Eagles and Nick Foles were winners that year).
The sim did well for Super Bowl LI, picking New England over the Atlanta Falcons, but Madden’s simulator’s margin was not as wide as the Patriots’ historic return from a 28-3 deficit.
Mahomes was the MVP in Madden’s Super Bowl LV simulator after completing 31 of 41 passes for 422 yards and four touchdowns, the second year in a row that he was named Super Bowl MVP. Mahomes threw touchdown passes to Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Travis Kelce, as well as two to Tyreek Hill, including one from 63 yards.
The effort was enough to contain Tom Brady, who completed 30 of 44 passes for 322 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Brady threw touchdown passes to Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, as well as a fourth-quarter pass to Rob Gronkowski to tie the game at 27 points.
Tampa Bay scored first in the Super Bowl simulation thanks to a field goal by Ryan Succop, but the first touchdown of the game was a 5-yard pass from Mahomes to Edwards-Helaire to give Kansas City a 7-3 lead at end of the first quarter.
The second quarter had more action, as Brady connected with Godwin for a 24-yard touchdown before Mahomes connected with Hill to score. Succop scored another field goal, but the Chiefs led the first half of the game by a score of 14-13.
However, all the prediction was wrong. The reality was very different; the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Super Bowl LV.
