Aspiring professionals put a lot of pressure on themselves to get scouted. Getting your foot in the door with a club or a scout can be the first step on the road to a promising football career. Scouting is never the be-all and end-all for any player, as there are still other routes available to the top of the game.

Having said this, Irama is committed to giving you the best advice to progress your career in football. Therefore, this is the first part of a series of blogs where we speak to ex-professionals who speak about their experiences getting scouted and what tips they would give to anyone following in their footsteps.

First up it is ex-Arsenal player, Perry Groves, who told us his experience of the scouting system. He wrote off to many clubs when he was 12 or 13 to request a trial in order to get scouted. This demonstrated a lot of passion and drive from Perry. It also showed the importance of determination as not everyone is going to say yes so you need to keep persisting in order to get scouted.

“Luckily enough when I was fourteen Wolverhampton Wanderers

    offered me schoolboy forms”

After trials at many clubs including Colchester United, Norwich City, Peterborough United and Nottingham Forest Perry was picked up by Wolverhampton Wanderers. As a schoolboy player, he was able to train at the club every school holiday honing his talent and improving all the time as a player.

For Perry, getting scouted early was very beneficial to his development and it also shows the importance of getting your name out there to clubs. This type of networking is something that Irama Sports Network specialises in. By signing up at irama.world you automatically have your name out there and an easy opportunity to network with scouts and clubs all in one place.

We hope this has given you a useful insight into one of the paths into the professional game through scouting. Stay tuned for more insights from ex-professionals over the coming days.
